Strengthening Indonesia’s Statistics Through Global Collaboration

October 15, 2026 | Other Activities

BPS continues to expand its international cooperation to deliver increasingly high-quality official statistics. One of its key initiatives is to strengthen the partnerships with member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and international institutions.

During the 15th Session of OIC-StatCom in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 29–30 September 2026, BPS shared its experiences and lessons learned in statistical transformation. These included the leveraging population registers and administrative data to support the Population Census 2030, preparing for the implementation of SNA 2025, and developing statistics on clean water, sanitation, and the economic value of unpaid household work.

This momentum also marked a stronger partnership with TURKSTAT, the national statistical office of Turkey, through the signing of an MoU covering modern census methodologies, administrative data integration, and the digital transformation of official statistics.

In addition, BPS strengthened collaborations with Saudi Arabia and Egypt, as well as explored the development of multidimensional poverty statistics in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

The BPS delegation was led by the Vice Chief Statistician of BPS RI, Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi. BPS also received the trust and support of all delegates to host the 16th Session of OIC-StatCom in 2027.

Collaboration goes beyond the exchange of experiences. It provides a platform for learning, refining methodologies, and working together to ensure that statistics remain relevant to the evolving needs of society, ultimately delivering higher-quality data that generate greater value and benefits for the public.
