BPS Strengthens Regional Development Statistics through Strategic Collaboration
June 3, 2025 | Other Activities
The Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has reaffirmed its commitment to providing feedback data to local governments, aiming to support the development of more adaptive, responsive, and targeted programs aligned with community needs. This commitment was formalized through the signing of a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BPS, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), and local governments—namely the City of Surabaya and the Regency of Central Halmahera—at the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) office in Jakarta on May 21. The collaboration is designed to strengthen the provision and utilization of regional development statistics through integrated efforts, encompassing data harmonization, information exchange, statistical system development, and human resource capacity building.
BPS Chief Statistician Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti underscored the critical role of high-quality data in shaping effective national development. “Synergy between central and local governments in data governance not only enables the creation of a more robust data infrastructure but also enhances the effectiveness of development programs,” she stated. The initiative is expected to serve as a pilot project and a model of best practice for other regional governments, contributing to improved public services, more evidence-based policymaking, and the advancement of a responsive and efficient digital government in Indonesia.
Minister of Home Affairs M. Tito Karnavian also emphasized the importance of inter-agency data integration as the backbone of sound public policy. He expressed his appreciation to BPS for its ongoing support in improving public service quality, particularly in the areas of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS). With its extensive regional network, BPS plays a pivotal role in verifying and validating population data. The Minister affirmed full support for the initiative, with the aim of replicating the model across all regions in Indonesia as a benchmark for data-driven policymaking.
