BPS Assigns Polstat STIS Field Work Practice Students to Disaster-Affected Areas: One Move, Lasting Impact
January 19, 2026 | BPS Activities
Statistics Indonesia (BPS), in collaboration with the Polytechnic of Statistics STIS (Polstat STIS), has deployed 510 students to conduct data collection in disaster-affected areas across Sumatra. The send-off ceremony was held at the Polstat STIS Auditorium on 13 January and was led by the Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, and attended by the Vice Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI, Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi.
This initiative follows the directive of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, which underscores the active involvement of students from state-affiliated higher education institutions in disaster response efforts in accordance with their respective fields of expertise. The data collection activities are also aligned with Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2026 on the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, under which BPS is mandated to serve as the Coordinator for Data Management. Accordingly, BPS has assigned 510 third-year students to undertake Field Work Practice (PKL) in three provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
The implementation of this Field Work Practice reflects BPS’s commitment to supporting the provision of accurate, up-to-date, and relevant statistical data as a foundation for post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction policy formulation, while also strengthening the role of Polstat STIS in service to society and the nation. “This Field Work Practice is not merely an academic requirement, but a humanitarian calling and an integral part of practice-based learning designed to shape you into future state statisticians who are professional, uphold integrity, and possess a strong spirit of service to the nation, the state, and society,” Amalia conveyed.
