Post-Disaster Data Collection Engages STIS Polytechnic of Statistics Students
January 14, 2026 | BPS Activities
The Vice Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi, delivered a briefing to 510 third-year students of the Politeknik Statistika (Polstat) STIS who will undertake Field Work Practice (PKL) as Field Enumerators (PCL) for the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Planning Data Collection, held at the Polstat STIS Auditorium (12/1). This activity forms part of BPS’s support as a member of the Task Force as mandated by Presidential Decree No.1 of 2026, particularly in disaster data management.
The activity was conducted as an effort to accelerate the collection of disaster impact data through a coordinated and integrated approach. The post-disaster data collection will be carried out in three provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. These regions are disaster-affected areas that require detailed and up-to-date data as a basis for rehabilitation and reconstruction planning.
“One thing we must understand is that we move forward with a spirit of humanity. Not all Politeknik Statistika STIS students have the opportunity to contribute directly to humanitarian efforts and disaster response. This is a space for life learning, sharpening professionalism, and cultivating empathy and leadership from an early stage,” Sonny said. He further emphasized to all students that quality statistics are not only accurate but also grounded in humanitarian values. “Assist the country by producing the data needed for disaster response,” he urged.
The Field Enumerators (PCL) will be accompanied by Field Supervisors (PML) comprising Polstat STIS lecturers and BPS RI staff, and supported by Regional Coordinators from provincial and regency/municipal BPS offices in the affected areas. The teams will conduct field data collection for approximately 12 days, from 15 to 26 January 2026. During this period, the PCL will collect data directly on public service infrastructure and disaster-affected households.
