Chief Statistician of BPS RI: Carry Out Duties with Heart and Dedication
January 19, 2026 | Other Activities
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has once again deployed students from the Polytechnic of Statistics STIS (Polstat STIS) to conduct field data collection in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The official departure was led by the Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, and the Vice Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI, Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi, at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on 15 January.
This send-off marked the second phase of deployment, following the departure of 120 students the previous day. In this phase, another 120 students were dispatched aboard Indonesian Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft. In total, 240 students were transported using Hercules aircraft, while the remaining students were deployed in stages via commercial flights, bringing the total number of deployed students to 510.
Also present at the ceremony was the Commander of Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, First Marshal of the Indonesian Air Force Erwin Sugiandi. “This data collection effort represents the students’ contribution not only for academic advancement but also for society. At the same time, students will serve as the backbone of data provision to accelerate rehabilitation and reconstruction in disaster-affected areas,” Amalia conveyed to the students. She further expressed her hope that they would carry out their duties with heart, dedication, and a strong spirit.
Polstat STIS students are being deployed to Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra as part of the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction program, integrated with the 2026 Polstat STIS Field Work Practice (PKL). This initiative follows up on Presidential Decree Number 1 of 2026, under which BPS is mandated to serve as the Coordinator for Data Management within the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force.
The students will serve as field enumerators alongside BPS staff, collecting data on affected households, housing conditions, and damaged infrastructure. Data collection is carried out through direct household visits, data collection at evacuation sites, and documentation of building and infrastructure conditions using photographs and geotagged coordinates.
