January 27, 2026 | BPS Activities
BPS, appointed as the Coordinator for Data Management within the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force, is currently conducting post-disaster data collection in three provinces affected by the Sumatra floods: Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. As part of efforts to accelerate the data collection process, BPS has deployed internship students from Politeknik Statistika STIS (Polstat STIS) as field enumerators.
On January 21, the Vice Chief Statistician of BPS RI, Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi, directly reviewed the data collection activities in several regencies and municipalities across North Sumatra. He visited North Tapanuli, Sibolga City, Central Tapanuli, South Tapanuli, and Mandailing Natal. En route to the data collection sites, the Vice Chief Statistician of BPS RI met and held discussions with regional leaders in the affected areas, including the Mayor of Sibolga, Akhmad Syukri Nazry Penarik; the Vice Mayor of Sibolga, Pantas Maruba Lumbantobing; the Regent of Central Tapanuli, Masinton Pasaribu; the Regent of South Tapanuli, H. Gus Irawan Pasaribu; the Regent of Mandailing Natal, H. Saipullah Nasution; the Vice Regent of Mandailing Natal, Atika Azmi Utami; as well as officials from relevant regional government agencies in each locality.
The Vice Chief Statistician of BPS RI also visited Tukka, one of the subdistricts in Central Tapanuli that was severely affected by the disaster. Piles of logs and thick layers of mud were still covering the area. He also visited Adian Koting in North Tapanuli. On this occasion, the Vice Chief Statistician of BPS RI engaged in discussions with Polstat STIS students and local residents.
“This data will be utilized by the task force to implement accelerated rehabilitation and reconstruction interventions. To ensure that rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts are well-targeted and carried out in a timely manner, accurate data is essential and that is the responsibility of BPS,” said Sonny.
