The signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) for Bilateral Cooperation between Statistics Indonesia and India’s Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) marks a shared commitment to building and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of official statistics, capacity building, and strategic collaboration. The cooperation focuses on the exchange of knowledge and best practices, advancements in statistical technology and methodology, human resource development, and the strengthening of collaboration and leadership in the Asia-Pacific region. This partnership also paves the way for statistical modernization and digital innovation, including the exploration of artificial intelligence applications, metadata standardization, and open data initiatives.

The Letter of Intent was signed by the Chief Statistician of BPS RI, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, and the Director General (Data Governance) of MoSPI, Pravin Ramchandra Meshram, in Lucknow on August 4, 2026, on the sidelines of the Meeting of Heads of National Statistical Offices of BRICS Countries (August 3–4, 2026) themed “Quality Statistics as a Driver of Change.”

The event was followed by a discussion between the leaders of the two NSOs, which was also attended by MoSPI Secretary Saurabh Garg. Through this LoI, BPS is expanding its network of international statistical cooperation while fostering concrete collaboration to advance official statistics in Indonesia and India toward achieving each country’s development goals.
