November 26, 2025 | Other Activities

Statistics Indonesia (BPS), together with the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), the SMERU Research Institute, and UNICEF, jointly developed the Multidimensional Child Rights Deprivation Study.

Children in Indonesia, as in many other countries, are highly vulnerable to the negative impacts of poverty. Therefore, identifying and understanding the characteristics of children living in poverty is an essential first step in mitigating the rising rate of child poverty.

This study aims to provide an overview of the identification and characteristics of child poverty in Indonesia based on monetary dimensions, including the level and characteristics of monetary child poverty, the characteristics of the households in which they live, as well as the dynamics of child poverty over time and across regions.

The results of the study were officially launched at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas (8/11). The Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, together with the Vice Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI, Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi, attended the launch event. Also present were the Minister of National Development Planning of Indonesia, Rachmat Pambudy; the Minister of Social Affairs of Indonesia, Saifullah Yusuf; the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) of Indonesia, Arifatul Choiri Fauzi; and the UNICEF Representative in Indonesia, Maniza Zaman. The event also featured a policy dialogue session with panelists from relevant ministries and agencies.

The findings of this study will serve as a basis for the government in formulating more targeted social protection measures and programs to address various forms of deprivation or unmet needs experienced by children in Indonesia.
