BPS Supports Credible Data for the Subsidized Housing Program in North Sumatera

July 7, 2025 | Other Activities

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has expressed its commitment to supporting the Subsidized Housing Program for Low-Income Communities (MBR) and Civil Servants (ASN) in the province of North Sumatra by providing accurate and high-quality data. This support is part of a collaboration between BPS, the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), and the Government of North Sumatra Province, including all of its districts. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between BPS, the Ministry of PKP, and the local governments was carried out alongside the allocation of 15,000 subsidized housing units in North Sumatra through the KPR FLPP program. This intiative is part of the joint effort to support the national target of 3 Million Houses Program.

Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, emphasized that accurate data is essential to ensure that the subsidized housing program effectively reaches the communities most in need. Accordingly, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) will oversee the program’s implementation through monitoring and evaluation activities scheduled for August. “BPS plays a strategic role in providing a credible data foundation, which is vital for policymaking and program evaluation. We are committed to ensuring that this program is accurately targeted, particularly in helping to reduce the housing backlog in North Sumatra,” said Amalia.

The Governor of North Sumatra, M. Bobby Afif Nasution, welcomed the cross-sector collaboration. He expressed his appreciation for the support of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in overseeing the program through credible data. "We greatly appreciate the support from the Minister of Public Works and Housing for allocating 15,000 subsidized housing units. Through the FLPP mortgage program, many benefits are offered to the public, such as low-down payments, affordable installments throughout the loan term, and insurance coverage. We will appoint Bank Sumut as the distributing bank for the FLPP mortgage scheme," said Bobby.

In addition to providing data, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) will also coordinate with the monitoring and evaluation team established by the local government to regularly assess the progress of subsidized housing development. Through the synergy between the Ministry of Housing, BPS, and local governments, it is hoped that people of North Sumatra—particularly low-income communities (MBR) and civil servants (ASN)—will soon improved access to adequate and affordable housing.
