BPS and KP2MI Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen Migrant Worker Data Management

Jakarta, March 6 – Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, alongside her delegation, participated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) on Thursday. The agreement aims to improve the collection, utilization, and development of statistical data on the placement and protection of Indonesian migrant workers.

“This collaboration will facilitate data and information exchange, strengthening the monitoring and oversight of labor migration,” Amalia stated. The partnership will enhance data governance by integrating National Socioeconomic Single Data (DTSEN)—a system developed by BPS under Presidential Instruction No. 4 of 2025. Migration data from KP2MI is expected to enrich DTSEN, expanding its role in policy planning, social assistance programs, community empowerment, and ensuring better support and protection for Indonesian migrant workers.

Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, Abdul Kadir Karding, emphasized KP2MI’s dual mandate in ensuring both quality placement and protection for migrant workers. “Our key challenge is to establish a unified system to curb irregular migration,” he said.

He added that the partnership with BPS will integrate KP2MI’s migrant worker data with BPS’s existing records, including information on Indonesians participating in overseas internship programs. Reliable data is crucial in safeguarding Indonesian nationals working abroad.

Beyond BPS, KP2MI also formalized partnerships with several other key institutions, including the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS), Diponegoro University, and Open University.
