SUTAS2018 Processing Results Data Verification Discussion, BPS Must be Independent

September 13, 2018 | BPS Activities

Yogyakarta - No less than 144 participants attended the Inter-Census Agricultural Survey Data Processing Data Verification Discussion (SUTAS2018), 5-7 September 2018. The Head of BPS, Kecuk Suhariyanto who opened the event, invited the regional BPS to be better able to explore each province the possibility of what emerged from the agricultural sector during 2013 to 2018. "This is the first SUTAS, of course I hope a lot. If there is a decline in agricultural households, it is necessary to ascertain the decline. Likewise if there is an increase, try to explore what caused the increase, "he said.

SUTAS2018 is the first SUTAS conducted by BPS. Through this activity, participants are expected to gain insight into the agricultural phenomenon so that it can support the discussion of SUTAS 2014 processing data verification. The four speakers present at the general discussion session were M. Habibullah (Deputy of BPS Production Statistics), Anang Noegroho (Director of Food and Agriculture Bappenas), M. Firdaus (Academic IPB), and Winarno Tohir (General Chairperson of the Mainstay Fishermen Contact). At the end of the discussion, the Head of the BPS Province of Yogyakarta, JB Priyono, who was the moderator asked the resource person to give an assessment of how independent BPS was at the scale of 0-10. The result? Winarno gives a value of 9; Firdaus 9.5; and Anang with a perfect score of 10.

The assertiveness of the BPS independence issue was indeed alluded to in the opening speech of the BPS, "Currently BPS is getting more attention because the resulting data has a big impact. From the available data, BPS must be able to express various achievements, as well as challenges. BPS does not need to worry if there is someone who is angry. The important thing is that our data must be quality. The sweet one is sweet, the bitter one says bitterly. We have no business to please one of the parties. We must be honest, strong methodology, so the results can be accounted for. BPS must remain independent, not be intervened. "
