SUPAS 2025 Serves as the Foundation for Strengthening Policies to Reduce Maternal and Child Mortality

August 7, 2026 | BPS Activities

The 2025 Intercensal Population Survey (SUPAS) shows an improvement in maternal and child health in Indonesia, as evidenced by a decline in maternal and infant mortality rates. However, the results of the survey conducted in June-July 2025 and covering more than 664,000 households also highlight the persistence of regional disparities, particularly in Eastern Indonesia, where maternal and child mortality rates remain higher than in other regions. SUPAS 2025 also recorded Indonesia’s population at 284.67 million, with a population growth rate of 1.08 percent.

These findings were presented by the Chief Statistician of BPS RI, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, while presenting the results of SUPAS 2025 at the Launch of the National Framework for Reducing Maternal and Child Mortality at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas in Jakarta on Wednesday (23/7). The event was attended by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno; the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya Sugiarto; the Deputy Minister of Population and Family Development/Deputy Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN), Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka; as well as other stakeholders.

SUPAS 2025 not only records developments but also highlights areas that still require attention. Through objective and reliable statistics, the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) supports the government in formulating more targeted policies to accelerate the reduction of maternal and child mortality and narrow regional disparities in healthcare services, thereby fostering high-quality and inclusive development.
