BPS Promotes SDMX Implementation through IMTS Workshop to Strengthen Data Interoperability
February 11, 2026 | Other Activities
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) held a Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange (SDMX) Workshop for International Merchandise Trade Statistics (IMTS) at Le Meridien Jakarta (26/1). This workshop was a collaboration between BPS and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) aimed at improving the quality of statistical data dissemination.
In today’s data-driven era, BPS is faced with the need to ensure that data must be systematically organized, well-documented, and interoperable. To resolve these challenges, BPS has begun transitioning to a more integrated data management system, one of them is through the adoption of SDMX standards.
Through SDMX, national statistical practices can be aligned with international standards, while also responding to the need for faster, more integrated, and globally comparable data.
As a first step, BPS has designated International Merchandise Trade Statistics (IMTS) as the first use case. Supported by experts Abdulla Gonzalov, Markie Muryawan, Daniel Buenavad from UNSD, and Stefan Schipper from ADB, BPS is focusing on aligning national statistical practices with these global standards. Going forward, BPS aims to develop SDMX infrastructure, followed by expanding the application of SDMX standards for data dissemination from other statistical domains to create a more reliable, modern, and integrated statistical dissemination system.
This workshop is expected to build a common understanding of the SDMX framework in the context of IMTS, improve participants' technical capacity, and strengthen collaboration among stakeholders.
With the support of ADB and contributions from UNSD resource persons, BPS is optimist that this activity will produce tangible results in strengthening the national statistical system.
