Following his review of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Planning Data Collection activities in North Sumatra Province, the Vice Chief Statistician of BPS RI, Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi, continued his visit to West Sumatra Province (Sumbar) (24/1). The disaster-affected areas in West Sumatra include Agam Regency, Tanah Datar Regency, and Padang Pariaman Regency.

During the visit, Sonny met with the Regent of Tanah Datar, Eka Putra; the Regent of Agam, H. Benni Warlis; and the Vice Mayor of Padang Panjang, Allex Saputra.

“Currently, BPS is conducting post-disaster data collection by involving internship students from the Polytechnic of Statistics STIS and BPS staff across various regions. In Tanah Datar Regency alone, 10 Polstat STIS students are carrying out data collection activities until January 28, 2026. The assignment will be extended for one additional week, as several nagari (villages) have not yet been covered,” Sonny stated. Furthermore, he expressed his expectation for full support from local governments in ensuring the provision of post-disaster statistics that are timely, accurate, and accountable, in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 1 of 2026.

The Regent of Tanah Datar, Eka Putra, conveyed his appreciation and affirmed that the Tanah Datar Regency Government is fully committed to supporting the field data collection process collaboratively to ensure valid data. “We are currently conducting a public validation of the R3P data collection results, which will be submitted to the central government,” he explained.

At the end of the visit, Sonny, together with the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Pratikno; the Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian; and the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Suharyanto, inaugurated the temporary housing (huntara) located in Kayu Pasak, Palembayan District, Agam Regency.
