Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, reaffirmed BPS’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry (Kementerian Perhutanan) in developing more comprehensive and modern forestry-sector statistics. Amalia conveyed this during a meeting with the Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, at the Ministry’s office in Jakarta (30/10).

Amalia stated that BPS is currently finalizing the 2025 revision of the Indonesian Standard Industrial Classification (KBLI), which will be aligned with the international standard ISIC (International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities) Revision 5. The revision is necessary to accommodate emerging economic activities, such as digital economy and carbon economy. “There are many new economic activities that we need to capture in KBLI 2025, including the economic value of carbon. Moreover, the latest international standard, ISIC Revision 5, has also been released,” Amalia said.

She emphasized that collaboration between BPS and the Ministry of Forestry is also crucial for the exchange and integration of sectoral data. She noted that BPS is currently transforming into a “modern national statistics office,” one that does not rely solely on surveys but also leverages administrative data and big data to enrich national statistics.

According to Raja, forestry data integration includes timber data, biodiversity, environmental services, and carbon as part of efforts to support cooperation with the FAO through the State of Indonesian Forest program, aimed at strengthening land-cover data in Indonesia. “We believe that the data provided by BPS will be tremendously useful for us to make decisions based on data and science,” Raja concluded.

The event concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BPS and the Ministry of Forestry as a legal basis for future data exchange and statistical collaboration, particularly to support their respective duties and functions in the fields of statistics and forestry.
