Abstract

In May 2007 the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 148.58, meanwhile the CPI in April 2007 was 148.43 or inflated 0.10 %. Generally, the indices of expenditure groups increased, except the index of foodstuff decreased. All index of expenditure group as follow: the foodstuff index decreased from 146.30 to 145.73 or deflated 0.39 %; the prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco increased from 143.12 to 143.79 or inflated 0.47 %; the housing, water, electric, gas and fuel increased from 151.43 to 151.96 or inflated 0.35 %; the clothing increased from 131.23 to 131.51 or inflated 0.21 %; the health increased from 129.20 to 129.43 or inflated 0.18 %; the education, recreation and sport increased from 148.18 to 148.19 or inflated 0.01 %; the transportation, communication and financial services increased from 167.79 to 168.00 or inflated 0.13 %.
The inflation of May 2007 was mainly caused by increased of several commodities, i.e.: cooking oil, security fee, purebred chicken eggs, shallot, filter cigarette, gasoline, noodle, leasing house fee, spinach, potato, cucumber, cabbage, mustard greens, tomato (vegetable), cooked rice and side dishes served together, clove-flavored cigarette, sand, rental house fee, and gold accessories. Meanwhile, the prices of the following commodities were decreased: rice, red chili, small chili, fresh fish, purebred chicken meat, green jackfruit and garlic.
In May 2007, the core of CPI changed from 138.11 to 138.55 or inflated 0.32 %. The volatile good component changed from 150.83 to 149.88 or deflated 0.63 %, and the administered good component changed from 181.52 to 181.93 or inflated 0.23 %. The core inflation rate for January to May 2007 and year-on-year (May 2007 on May 2006) were 2.01 % and 5.62 % respectively. While the volatile inflation rate for January to May 2007 and year-on-year (May 2007 on May 2006) were 1.93 % and 11.79 % respectively. Furthermore the administered price inflation rate for January to May 2007 and year-on-year (May 2007 on May 2006) were 1.56 % and 2.55 % respectively.
