Abstract

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in July 2007 was 149.99 or inflated 0.72 % from June 2007 at 148.92. In July 2007, all expenditure groups increased, where the changes of each expenditure group as follows: the food stuff increased from 146.42 to 148.39 or inflated 1.35 %; the prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco increased from 144.27 to 144.84 or inflated 0.40 %; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel increased from 152.16 to 152.64 or inflated 0.32 %; the clothing increased from 130.94 to 131.74 or inflated 0.61 %; the health increased from 129.71 to 130.16 or inflated 0.35 %; the education, recreation and sport increased from 148.24 to 152.52 or inflated 2.89 %; and the last group, the transportation, communication and financial services increased from 168.19 to 168.27 or inflated 0.05 %.
The inflation of July 2007 was mainly caused by price increases of several commodities, i.e.: purebred chicken eggs, elementary school education fees, secondary school education fees, filter cigarette, security fee, cooking oil, wages of labor, fresh fish, powdered milk, jengkol, sting bean, potato, petai, cooked rice and side dishes served together, sweet bread, clove-flavored cigarette, leasing house fee, rental house fee, and gold accessories. Meanwhile, the prices of the following commodities were decreased, i.e.: garlic, rice, orange, tomato (fruit), shallot, and sugar.
In July 2007, the core of CPI changed from 138.69 to 139.67 or inflated 0.71 %. The volatile good component changed from 150.66 to 152.75 or inflated 1.39 %, and the administered good component changed from 182.37 to 182.68 or inflated 0.17 %. The core inflation rate for January to July 2007 and year-on-year (July 2007 on July 2006) were 2.83 % and 5.78 % respectively. While inflation rate of the volatile component for January to July 2007 and year-on-year (July 2007 on July 2006) were 3.88 % and 11.41 % respectively. Furthermore inflation rate of the administered goods for January to July 2007 and year-on-year (July 2007 on July 2006) were 1.98 % and 2.69 % respectively.
