Vice Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI Becomes Keynote Speaker at the International Statistics Forum in Kazakhstan

Vice Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI, Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi, representing Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI, attended the International Forum on Digital Transformation of National Statistical Systems in Astana, Kazakhstan, as a keynote speaker on November 6-7, 2025.

In a forum that brought together leaders of statistical agencies from various CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) member countries and several Eastern European countries, BPS RI had the honor of being one of the keynote speakers. Through a presentation titled “Modern Statistics, Meaningful Impact: The BPS–Statistics Indonesia Transformation Story”, Sonny shared the steps taken to modernize statistics in Indonesia in order to produce more adaptive and impactful data.

On the other session of the meeting, Sonny fulfilled requests for interviews with various Kazakhstani national media outlets, including TV, radio, and other media. The interviews focused on statistical development in Indonesia and bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Kazakhstan in statistics.

To strengthen statistical collaboration between Indonesia and Kazakhstan, Vice Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI and the Head of the Bureau of National Statistics Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan (QAZSTAT) signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) as a manifestation of their joint commitment to developing statistical methodologies and exchanging knowledge. The signing of this agreement and the presentation by Vice Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI were attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Dr. Fadjroel Rachman.

Upon the request of the NSO of Uzbekistan, Sonny also held bilateral meetings to discuss the BPS RI's agreement to support the development of IT Statistics in Uzbekistan. Bilateral discussions were also held with delegations from Azerbaijan, Georgia, OIC, OECD, and UNESCAP, among others.

During the visit, Sonny also had the opportunity to visit the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Astana and meet with the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Kazakhstan, including had a follow-up discussion regarding cooperation between BPS and QAZSTAT.
