Vice Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI, Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi, attended 14th Session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom) in Ankara, Turkey, on October 1-3 2025. This event was held by Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) as Secretariat of OIC-StatCom. This forum is an opportunity to gather the leaders of statistical agency among Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries and representation of several international organisation, such as the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, UNSD, PARIS21, IEA, IRENA, UNECE, UNFPA, UNESCO-UIS, and the World Bank.


This year's meeting was an important moment to strengthen the strategic leadership of national statistical agencies in promoting digital transformation and improving data quality. On this occasion, Sonny emphasized the needs for collaboration among OIC member countries to address various statistical challenges, including the development of Halal Statistics and the utilization of Turkey's strategic position as a member of the OECD to strengthen regional statistical networks and capacities.


On the sidelines of the event, the Deputy Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI also held bilateral meetings with representatives from Turkey, Egypt, Brunei Darussalam, and Pakistan, as well as a trilateral meeting with the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics to discuss opportunities for collaboration and strengthening statistical capacity in the OIC region.
