The Vice Chief of Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Attends Workshop with Leaders of Statistical Institute across Asia-Pacific

The Vice Chief of Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI, Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi attends the Capacity Building Workshop for Countries of the Asia-Pacific region on Data Ethics, Governance, and Quality in a Changing Data Ecosystem Greater in Noida, India, July 14-16 2025. The workshop was organized by the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific and the United Nations Statistics Division, in collaboration with Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) of India. A total of 17 country representatives from the Asia-Pacific region, along with UNFPA, UNICEF, ILO, and FAO participated in this event, including Indonesia.

The workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of leaders of statistical institute in the Asia-Pacific region particularly in exercising strategic leadership, serving as a platform to exchange information on the statistical ecosystem and to learn best practices from participating countries. Some of agendas presented in this workshop included, Modernizing Legislation for Official Statistics to Remain Relevant, Quality Assurance and Novel Data Sources, and Modern Statistical Production Architecture in the Context of the Asia Pacific Region.

Amid the packed agenda, the Vice Chief of Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) also held several meetings, including one with home staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in New Delhi to deliver a recent update about BPS. Sonny also held meeting with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in New Delhi with the theme “Collaboration of Providing Quality Statistical Data for National Development.”

The Vice Chief of Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) also held a bilateral meeting with Secretary of Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI). The meeting discussed various methods for measuring welfare statistics, the modernization of statistical practices, and potential areas of collaboration between BPS RI and MoSPI.
