BPS Workshop Explores Satellite Data to Improve Rice Production Analysis
December 12, 2024 | Other Activities
Staistics Indonesia (BPS) has hosted a workshop exploring how cutting-edge satellite technology can enhance the accuracy of rice production data. The event, supported by UNESCAP and the FAO, is part of the One Rice Data Initiative aimed at improving agricultural data collection.
The workshop showcased a mixed-method approach, combining field surveys with high-resolution satellite imagery and advanced yield prediction models. The goal? To overcome challenges like high costs and difficult access to remote farming regions while ensuring cost-effective and reliable data collection.
Prominent experts shared their insights, including Professor Jingfeng Huang from Zhejiang University, Jovino Lopez De Dios from PhilRice, and Lorenzo De Simone of the FAO. They were joined by Dott. Vittorio Gentile of e-GEOS and Dr. Jonathan Richetti from CSIRO, delivering sessions on the latest in remote sensing technology.
The initiative also paves the way for international collaborations aimed at modernizing agricultural statistics in Indonesia. Organizers hope this effort will bolster the country’s food security strategies and ensure sustainable growth in the agricultural sector.
