Coordination Meeting on Security of Supply and Prices of Food Ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2024

March 5, 2024 | Other Activities

Acting Chief Statistician of BPS (Statistics Indonesia), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, attended the Coordination Meeting on Security of Supply and Prices of Food Ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2024 in Jakarta (5/3). The event, organized by the National Food Agency, aims to maintain the stability of food prices leading up to the period of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in 2024.

In addition to the presence of the Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, the meeting was also attended by other key speakers, including the Head of National Food Agency, and those from the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Logistics Agency (Bulog), the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Food Task Force of the Indonesian National Police.

In his address, Minister Tito stated that this coordination meeting is in accordance with the guidance of the President of the Republic of Indonesia. He added that the meeting is also an effort for cooperation and collaboration in controlling the prices of basic commodities leading up to the Religious and National Festivities (HKBN), fasting, and Eid al-Fitr in 2024. Some regions in Indonesia still have monthly inflation rates above the national average. "So for regional heads with inflation rates above the national average, they need to control the availability and stability of food ahead of the Religious and National Festivities in the month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr," he emphasized.

In her presentation, the Acting Chief Statistician of BPS conveyed that inflation occurs at the beginning of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. The main food commodities causing inflation in February 2024 are rice, red chili, chicken eggs, and chicken meat. "If we look at historical peaks, inflation usually occurs in the month of Ramadan or Eid al-Fitr and at the end of the year. Therefore, as we enter March and April 2024, it is crucial to initiate proactive measures early on. This way, we aim to mitigate the inflation pressure during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr this year, with the hope that it will not be as significant as it was last year," stated Amalia.
