Improving Quality in Village Index Data Collection and Management

In accordance with the mandate of Law No. 16 of 1997 concerning Statistics, the BPS-Statistics Indonesia (BPS) is responsible for supervising the implementation of sectoral statistics. In supervising data governance of villages, BPS makes efforts to supervise data in villages/sub-districts through the Village Fond of Statistics initiative and creates a prototype for implementing unified data from villages through the Jembrana One Village Data initiative in Bali Province. This was conveyed by the Acting Chief Statistician of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, during the Launching of the Village Index at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Office, Jakarta (4/3).

Amalia also conveyed that BPS utilizes data from the updating and recording of Village Potentials (Podes) in calculating the Village Index using the Sustainable Livelihood Frameworks (SLF) framework adopted according to national needs and interests. For the year 2024, BPS is ready to oversee the preparation of the 2024 Village Index through framework, weighting, and data management. Meanwhile, for the preparation of the 2025 Village Index, BPS will conduct the 2025 Village Development Data Update (Podes Update). "Our commitment at BPS is to produce Podes data annually, and we can collaborate with Bappenas and the Ministry of Villages to ensure excellence, especially in generating the Village Index from 2025 onwards," she concluded.

The event was opened by the Secretary of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Chief Secretary of Bappenas, Teni Widuriyanti, and was attended by representatives from various ministries/agencies, including the Cabinet Secretariat, Ministry of Villages and Rural Development, Ministry of Home Affairs, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, as well as representatives from regional governments. On that occasion, Teni emphasized the importance of the role of villages in achieving Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
