Real Steps to Develop Tourism Satellite Accounts

Real Steps to Develop Tourism Satellite Accounts

April 8, 2019 | BPS Activities

Bali - A gentle hand gesture accompanied by a glance of Balinese Dance's typical meaningful eyes from five little dancers began the Workshop on Evaluating Tourism Satellite Balance Preparation (Tourism GDP) which took place at the Trans Resort Bali Hotel Ballroom this morning (4/4). The program was even more lively with the echo of the angklung tuning which was accompanied by applause when the Deputy of the Balance Sheet and BPS Statistical Analysis, Sri Soelistyowati collaborated with the Deputy of BPS Distribution and Services Statistics, Yunita Rusanti, to open the event.

Tourism is one of the economic alternatives to increase the added value and source of new economic growth. The role of BPS in supporting one of the national development programs is by compiling a tourism balance sheet or TSA (Tourism Satellite Accounts) as one of the important tools to calculate the contribution of tourism in the economy.

Yunita's preparation for the first time to be conducted was assessed by Yunita as very challenging. "We must hold international comparisons," Yunita said. Therefore, International Recommendation for Tourism Statistics 2008 and the 2015 Indonesian Standard Business Classification will be used as reference guidelines.

While Lies emphasizes collaborative and integrative work processes with ministries / institutions (K / L) and related agencies remembering the variety of data needed. "I ask friends to openly give their data, discuss and inform all information that needs to be known in the preparation of this TSA," Lies appealed.

The event, which will last until April 6, was attended by 139 participants from BPS, both central and regional, K / L representatives, associations and heads of BPS districts in ten 'new Bali' tourist destination areas: Lake Toba, Belitong Island, Tanjung Lesung, Thousand Islands, Borobudur Temple, Mount Bromo, Mandalika Beach, Labuan Bajo Village, Wakatobi National Park, and Morotai Island.
