Seminar on SUPAS 2015 Trial’s Results

December 2, 2014 | BPS Activities

In 2015, BPS will conduct one of decennial large-scale survey, the 2015 Inter-Censal Population Survey (SUPAS 2015). The SUPAS2015 is a source of population data between the two population censuses with more updated information on population and variety of the latest demographic indicators. The SUPAS2015 results also serve as inputs in evaluation of the population projection resulted from the SP2010.

SUPAS2015 is scheduled to be commenced in May 2015. Some trials are needed to assess many aspects of the survey such as questionnaire; manuals and guidelines including the concept and definition; procedures or the SOP, field organization, personnel recruitment, and other administrative aspects prior to the field operation. The trials of SUPAS2015 were carried out from May to June 2014 in three areas (Padang, Bantul, and Manado). The trials involved 12 census blocks in each sampled area.

To discuss the result of the trials, the Directorate of Population and Employment Statistics held a seminar in Alila Hotel Jakarta, on 28 October 2014. The event was opened by Deputy Chief Statistician for Social Statistics, Wynandin Imawan. The discussion was led by the National Programme Officer of United Nations Population Fund, Richard Makalew. Besides by the BPS officials, the seminar was attended by various representatives from relevant ministries/agencies, national and international institutions.

The Director of Census and Survey Methodology Development Dedi Walujadi, one of the speakers in the seminar, explained that to capture maternal mortality cases, the SUPAS2015 sample consisted of 652,000 households spread over around 40,000 census blocks. Each block had 16,000 households to be enumerated. Thus, the characteristics of SUPAS2015 are designed to estimate at the district/city level, and the death variables are designed for national or provincial level with relative precision of 1 to 2 percent.

Other speakers, Director of Population and Employment Statistics BPS, Razali Ritonga, explaining that the test of this realization SUPAS2015 ruta only 570 of the 576 targets ruta ruta because that was not found during the enumeration period. Razali also explains the difference between SUPAS2005 and SUPAS2015 such as differences in the number of samples that reached twice the SUPAS2005, changes in the number of variables to 129 variables, as well as the reference time of death is changed from 3 years to 5 years (since January 1, 2010 until the time of enumeration).

The Director of Population and Employment Statistics, Razali Ritonga, explained that these trials missed six sampled households due to failure to locate the. Razali also explained that differences between SUPAS2005 and SUPAS2015 are in the number of samples and variables (become larger), and reference time of death (changing from 3 to 5 years).
