Abstract

Tourist attraction have an important role in creating quality and sustainable tourism. The improvement of Indonesia’s ranking in the 2024 Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) to 22nd out of 119 countries shows significant progress, although challenges such as infrastructure and supporting services still need to be improved. The availability of quality tourist attractions can support the improvement of TTDI in the future. The availability of tourist attractions is improving, as seen from its growth of 17.18% in 2024. Natural, Water, and Artificial tourism dominate the types of tourist attractions. The distribution of tourist attractions shows regional disparities, with a high concentration in Java and Bali compared to other areas, such as Maluku and Papua, which are still underdeveloped. The sustainability of the tourism industry is also determined by environmental preservation and the enhancement of competitiveness. This aspect is identified with the wise use of natural resources. including the use of water resources. The majority of destinations still rely on groundwater. This condition indicates the need for improved clean water infrastructure. In addition, the development of human resources and the adoption of information technology at tourist destinations are key to enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesian tourism in the future. Sustainability in the socio-economic dimension of tourism needs to be considered. Sustainable tourism has become a priority with a focus on identifying social impacts, including cultural aspects and benefits for local residents. From an economic perspective, tourism revenue reached Rp11.63 trillion in 2024. Nevertheless, interprovincial disparities and the dominance of Java-Bali in economic contributions pose challenges that must be addressed to support inclusive growth across all regions of Indonesia.
