Abstract

Telecommunication Statistics Indonesia presents data on the development of the telecommunications sector in Indonesia, which includes internet penetration rates, ownership of information and communication technology (ICT) facilities, usage patterns, as well as data on telecommunications networks and services. This statistic contains the development of the internet in Indonesia, both in terms of service providers and users.According to BPS data from the results of the 2024 National Socio-economic Survey (Susenas) data collection, 72.78 percent of the Indonesian population has accessed the internet in 2024 and 69.21 percent in 2023. This high internet usage shows that people have wider access to information sources and is an indicator of the readiness of a country or region in facing the era of digital transformation. The high number of internet users in Indonesia is inseparable from the rapid development of mobile cellular telephone. In 2024, it was recorded that 68.65 percent of the population in Indonesia had mobile cellular telephone. This figure has increased slightly when compared to the condition in 202 which reached 67.29 percent. In contrast to the development of cellular telephone use which continues to increase from year to year, the use of fixed-line telephones actually shows a downward trend. In 2024, it was recorded that only 0.99 percent of households owned/operated a fixed-line telephone, a decrease compared to 2023 which amounted to 1.17 percent. Household computer ownership in 2024 experienced a slight increase compared to 2023, which amounted to 18.52 percent in 2024 and 18.06 percent in 2022. The growth in the export value of ICT goods shows a fluctuating pattern from 2022 to 2024. At the beginning of the period, exports of ICT goods recorded positive growth, but experienced a decline in the last two years, namely in 2023 and 2024. In 2024, the export value of Indonesia's ICT goods was recorded at US$7,371 million, a decrease of 2.22 percent compared to 2023 which reached US$7,538 million. This downward trend over the past two years indicates the weakening performance of the ICT sector in supporting national exports, and emphasizes the need to evaluate the competitiveness and resilience of the ICT industry in the midst of changing global economic dynamics. The growth of imports of ICT goods shows a fluctuating pattern throughout the 2020-2024 period. In 2024, the import value was recorded at US$13,552 million, an increase of 4.59 percent compared to the previous year. Apart from 2024, only 2021 recorded positive growth, which amounted to 24.84 percent. In 2024, most of the imports of ICT goods were from the electrical components group (US$4,939 million) and the computers and peripheral equipment group (US$4,650 million). This indicates several possibilities, including increased assembly or production activities of electronic devices in the country. In addition, the high import value of computers and peripheral equipment may reflect the increasing need for digital infrastructure, both in the government, education and industrial sectors.Within the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) structure, the information and communication sector has shown strong resilience and consistent growth over the past five years. This sector has the sixth highest growth in 2024 at 7.57 percent, reflecting the stable demand for digital services. On the other hand, despite its strategic role in supporting digital transformation and innovation, the information and communication sector has yet to contribute significantly to GDP. In the last five years, its contribution has been recorded below five percent, and in 2024 it will only reach 4.34 percent, placing it in seventh place in the national economic structure.
