Statistics Data Story for Indonesia - Female Breadwinners: The Phenomenon of Women as the Main Breadwinners for the Family

Cerita Data Statistik Untuk Indonesia (Statistical Data Stories for Indonesia) is a booklet containing articles known as CERDAS, which utilizes innovative data sources and official statistics to provide ideas related to socio-economic issues. In this edition, the Directorate of Statistics Analysis and Development compiles articles related to gender equality issues. The phenomenon of women as the main breadwinners in the family (female breadwinners) in Indonesia is increasing, especially in urban areas with basic education. They contribute greatly to the family economy, but face limited access to technology, social protection, and income inequality. Their burden is even heavier because of their dual roles as workers and housekeepers. Public policy needs to support them through improved education, equal access, and fairer labor regulations.
