Abstract

Gender equality is an important target in human development. The national programs to improve gender equality and empowerment are evaluated by using various measures such as Gender Development Index (GDI) and Gender Empowerment Measure (GEM). In Indonesia, measurement of gender equality has been started since 2009 by publishing IPG and IDG on the bps website. These indices refer to United Nations Development Program (UNDP) which has been publishing the measures since 1995. In 2010 UNDP developed a new measurement of gender inequality called as Gender Inequality Index (GII). Adjusting to this situation, in 2017 and 2018 BPS conducted a preliminary study in term of measuring GII by adjusting local condition. The study resulted an index named as Indeks Ketimpangan Gender (IKG) in the national and subnational level after consulting with many stakeholders. Meanwhile, the publication of Gender Inequality Calculation 2018 presents the IKG at the provincial and municipal level using a methodology harnessed in the pervious study.
