One form of nonpermanent mobility that has developed rapidly in major cities in Indonesia is commuting or "nglaju" activities. Commuting activities can not be separated from the role of commuters or "commuters". The existence of commuters has an impact on the development of origin areas and commuter destination areas, for example in terms of providing adequate transportation and handling congestion problems. In 2017 the Central Bureau of Statistics conducts commuter surveys in Bandung Regency, Sumedang Regency, West Bandung Regency, Bandung City and Cimahi City (Bandung Raya) and in Gresik Regency, Bangkalan Regency, Mojokerto Regency, Mojokerto City, Surabaya City, Sidoarjo Regency , and Lamongan District (Gerbangkertosusila).
