Abstract

The year-on-year (y-on-y) inflation rate in August 2023 was 3.27 percent, with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 115.22. The highest inflation was seen in Manokwari at 6.40 percent with a CPI of 122.04, while the lowest was seen in Jambi at 1.92 percent with a CPI of 116.37.
Inflation occurred as the prices went up, as indicated by the increase in most of the expenditure groups indices, namely: Food, Beverages, and Tobacco Group of 3.51 percent; Clothing and Footwear Group of 1.12 percent; Housing, Water, Electricity, and Household Fuel Group of 1.40 percent; Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance Group of 2.21 percent; Health Group of 2.69 percent; Transport Group of 9.65 percent; Recreation, Sport, and Culture Group of 1.88 percent; Education Group of 2.07 percent; Food and Beverage Serving Services/Restaurant Group of 2.88 percent; and Personal Care and Other Services Group of 3.76 percent. On the other hand, Information, Communication, and Financial Services Group recorded a deflation of 0.22 percent.
The month-to-month (m-to-m) deflation rate in August 2023 was 0.02 percent, and the year-to-date (y-to-d) inflation in August 2023 was 1.43 percent.
For the Core Component, the y-on-y inflation rate in August 2023 was 2.18 percent, the m-to-m inflation rate was 0.13 percent, and the y-to-d inflation rate was 1.33 percent.
