Abstract

A. EXPORTS
  • The value of Indonesia’s exports in July 2023 reached US$20.88 billion, increased 1.36 percent compared to exports in June 2023 but decreased 18.03 percent compared to July 2022.
  • Non-oil and gas exports in July 2023 reached US$19.65 billion, increased 1.62 percent compared to non-oil and gas exports in June 2023 but decreased 18.74 percent compared to July 2022.
  • Cumulatively, Indonesia’s exports during January–July 2023 reached US$149.53 billion, decreased 10.27 percent over the same period in 2022. Likewise, non-oil and gas exports reached US$140.47 billion or decreased 10.76 percent.
  • The highest increase of non-oil and gas exports in July 2023 was nickel and articles thereof commodity, in amount of US$175.6 million or increased 43.29 percent from June 2023. The highest decrease was mineral fuels, in amount of US$234.3 million or decreased 6.93 percent.
  • By industry classification, exports of manufacturing products during period January–July 2023 decreased by 10.02 percent; exports of agriculture, forestry and fisheries also decreased by 3.40 percent; along with exports of mining and others decreased by 13.78 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
  • The main country destinations of non-oil and gas exports in July 2023 were China at US$4.93 billion, United States of America at US$2.03 billion, and India at US$1.82 billion, with the contribution of the three reached 44.70 percent. Meanwhile, exports to ASEAN and the European Union (27 countries) amounted to US$3.60 billion and US$1.27 billion, respectively.
  • According to the province of origin, the largest exports of Indonesia in January– July 2023 came from Jawa Barat with a value of US$21.13 billion (14.13 percent), followed by Kalimantan Timur at US$17.12 billion (11.45 percent), and Jawa Timur at US$12.70 billion (8.49 percent).
B. IMPORTS
  • Imports of Indonesia in July 2023 were worth US$19.57 billion, rose by 14.10 percent compared with June 2023, yet decreased by 8.32 percent compared with July 2022.
  • Imports of oil and gas in July 2023 were worth US$3.13 billion, increased by 40.94 percent compared with June 2023, yet decreased by 29.70 percent compared with July 2022.
  • Imports of non-oil and gas in July 2023 were worth US$16.44 billion, increased by 10.10 percent compared with June 2023, but fell by 2.69 percent compared with July 2022.
  • The most significant increase in imports of non-oil and gas in July 2023 was electrical machinery/equipments and parts thereof which rose by US$341.6 million (17.33 percent). On the contrary, residues and waste from the food industries experinced the highest fall with US$126.0 million (27.91 percent) decrease.
  • The largest trading partner countries of non-oil and gas imports in January–July 2023 were China US$35.53 billion (32.74 percent), Japan US$9.65 billion (8.89 percent), and Thailand US$6.16 billion (5.68 percent). Imports of non-oil and gas from ASEAN and EU countries were US$17.89 billion (16.49 percent) and US$8.44 billion (7.77 percent), respectively.
  • Compared with the same period last year, imports of intermediate goods in January–July 2023 experienced the highest fall with a US$12,820.2 million (12.00 percent) decrease. On the other hand, imports of consumption and capital goods experienced increases with a US$709.8 million (6.36 percent) and US$2,879.1 million (14.71 percent) rise, respectively.
  • Indonesia’s balance of trade in July 2023 experienced a surplus of US$1.31 billion, which mainly affected by a surplus of non-oil and gas of US$3.22 billion. On the other hand, there was a deficit of US$1.91 billion in oil and gas.
