Abstract

A. Growth of Tourism

  • In May 2023, international visitor arrivals in Indonesia were 945.59 thousand. International visitors increased by 166.42 percent compared with May 2022 (year-on-year) and 9.21 percent compared with April 2023 (month-to-month). International arrivals in May 2023 were dominated by visitors from Malaysia (17.89 percent), Australia (12.04 percent), and Singapore (10.65 percent).
  • Cumulatively, the international visitor arrivals from January to May 2023 also increased by 312.91 percent compared with the same period in 2022. This increase in international visitors was mainly recorded at the airports of Ngurah Rai-Bali and Soekarno-Hatta-Banten, which increased by 882.11 percent and 335.91 percent, respectively.
  • The room occupancy rate of classified hotels in May 2023 was 49.03 percent, which dropped 0.82 percentage points (year-on-year) but rose 7.65 percentage points (month-to-month). Meanwhile, the room occupancy rate of non-classified hotels was 24.24 percent, which decreased by 0.51 percentage points (year-on-year) but increased by 2.37 percentage points (month-to-month). The average length of stay at classified hotels was 1.62 days, a slight reduction of 0.04 points compared with the previous year.

B. Growth of National Transport

  • The number of domestic air transport passengers departing in May 2023 was 5.7 million, an increased of 13.61 percent compared to April 2023. International air transport passengers increased by 14.40 percent to 1.3 million. From January to May 2023, the number of domestic air transport passengers was 24.9 million, increasing by 26.15 percent. The number of international air transport passengers was 5.7 million and increased by 399.40 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
  • The number of domestic sea transport passengers departing in May 2023 was recorded at 1.7 million, decreasing by 5.68 percent compared to April 2023. The freight transported by domestic sea transport increased by 7.76 percent, turning 29.3 million tons. From January to May 2023, the number of domestic sea transport passengers reached 7.9 million and increased by 13.55 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, freight increased by 8.46 percent, reaching 140.5 million tons.
  • The number of railway passengers departing in May 2023 was 30.5 million people, which increased by 7.80 percent compared to April 2023. Furthermore, freight transported by train increased by 4.91 percent to 5.3 million tons. The number of passengers reached 144.0 million from January to May 2023 and increased by 53.88 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Moreover, the cumulative freight transported by train rose by 13.36 percent to 26.6 million tons.
