Abstract

A. Tourism Progress

  • In April 2023, international visitor arrivals in Indonesia were 865.81 thousand. International visitors increased by 276.31 percent compared with April 2022 (year-on-year) but slightly decreased by 0.39 percent compared with the previous month (month-to-month). International arrivals in April 2023 were dominated by visitors from Malaysia (17.01 percent), Australia (12.69 percent), and Singapore (11.24 percent).
  • Cumulatively, the international visitor arrivals from January to April 2023 also increased by 393.83 percent compared with 2022. This increase in international visitors was mainly recorded from the gates of Ngurah Rai and Soekarno-Hatta airports, which increased by 1,819.01 percent and 441.24, respectively.
  • The room occupancy rate of classified hotels was 41.37 percent, which increased by 7.14 percentage points (year-on-year). While compared with the previous month, the room occupancy rate of classified hotels experienced a decrease of 4.88 percentage points (month-to-month). Meanwhile, the room occupancy rate of non-classified hotels was 21.87 percent, increased by 4.47 percentage points (year-on-year), and increased by 0.61 percentage points (month-to-month). The average length of stay at classified hotels was 1.63 days, showing an increase of 0.01 points compared with the previous year.

B. Growth of National Transport

  • The number of domestic air transport passengers departing in April 2023 was 5.0 million or increased by 3.07 percent compared to March 2023. The number of international air transport passengers decreased by 5.05 percent to 1.1 million. From January to April 2023, the number of domestic air transport passengers was 19.2 million and increased by 32.84 percent. The number of international air transport passengers was 4.4 million and increased by 564.12 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
  • The number of domestic sea transport passengers departing in April 2023 was recorded at 1.8 million, increasing by 24.75 percent compared to March 2023. The freight transported by domestic sea transport decreased by 4.97 percent, turning 27.2 million tons. From January to April 2023, the number of domestic sea transport passengers reached 6.1 million and increased by 18.55 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, freight increased by 6.37 percent, reaching 111.2 million tons.
  • The number of railway passengers departing in April 2023 was 28.3 million people, which decreased by 5.01 percent compared to March 2023. Furthermore, freight transported by train decreased by 10.61 percent to 5.1 million tons. The number of passengers reached 113.4 million in January–April 2023 and increased by 62.13 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Moreover, the cumulative freight transported by train rose by 14.12 percent to 21.3 million tons.
