Abstract

A. EXPORTS
  • The value of Indonesia’s exports in April 2023 reached US$19.29 billion, decreased 17.62 percent compared to exports in March 2023 and decreased 29.40 percent compared to April 2022.
  • Non-oil and gas exports in April 2023 reached US$18.03 billion, decreased 18.33 percent compared to non-oil and gas exports in March 2023 and decreased 30.35 percent compared to April 2022.
  • Cumulatively, Indonesia’s exports during January–April 2023 reached US$86.35 billion, decreased 7.61 percent over the same period in 2022. Likewise, non-oil and gas exports reached US$81.08 billion or decreased 8.62 percent.
  • The highest decrease of non-oil and gas exports in April 2023 was precious metals and jewellery/precious stones commodity, in amount of US$573.4 million or decreased 52.30 percent from March 2023. The highest increase was ores, slag, and ash, in amount of US$166.8 million or increased 26.16 percent.
  • By industry classification, exports of manufacturing products during period January–April 2023 decreased by 12.89 percent; exports of agriculture, forestry and fisheries also decreased by 10.86 percent; while exports of mining and others increased by 8.44 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
  • The main country destinations of non-oil and gas exports in April 2023 were China at US$4.62 billion, United States at US$1.57 billion, and India at US$1.54 billion, with the contribution of the three reached 42.92 percent. Meanwhile, exports to ASEAN and the European Union (27 countries) amounted to US$3.16 billion and US$1.44 billion, respectively.
  • According to the province of origin, the largest exports of Indonesia in January–April 2023 came from Jawa Barat with a value of US$11.45 billion (13.26 percent), followed by Kalimantan Timur at US$10.35 billion (11.99 percent), and Jawa Timur at US$7.76 billion (8.98 percent).

B. IMPORTS
  • Imports of Indonesia in April 2023 were worth US$15.35 billion, decreased by 25.45 percent compared with March 2023, and fell by 22.32 percent compared with April 2022.
  • Imports of oil and gas in April 2023 were worth US$2.96 billion, decreased by 1.98 percent compared with March 2023, and decreased by 22.52 percent compared with April 2022.
  • Imports of non-oil and gas in April 2023 were worth US$12.39 billion, decreased by 29.48 percent compared with March 2023, and fell by 22.27 percent compared with April 2022.
  • The most significant increase in imports of non-oil and gas in April 2023 was electrical machinery/equipments and parts thereof which fell by US$820.1 million (32.01 percent). On the contrary, residues and waste from food industries experinced the highest rise with US$73.2 million (22.48 percent) increase.
  • The largest trading partner countries of non-oil and gas imports in January–April 2023 were China US$19.18 billion (32.50 percent), Japan US$5.24 billion (8.88 percent), and Thailand US$3.53 billion (5.98 percent). Imports of non-oil and gas from ASEAN and EU countries were US$9.97 billion (16.89 percent) and US$4.35 billion (7.37 percent), respectively.
  • Compared with the same period last year, imports of intermediate goods in January–April 2023 experienced the highest fall with a US$6,818.0 million (11.52 percent) decrease, followed by consumption good which fell US$174.5 million (2.77 percent). On the other hand, imports of capital goods experienced increases with a US$720.9 million (6.51 percent) rise.
  • Indonesia’s balance of trade in April 2023 experienced a surplus of US$3.94 billion, which mainly affected by a surplus of non-oil and gas of US$5.64 billion. On the other hand, there was a deficit of US$1.70 billion in oil and gas.
