Abstract

  • Indonesia’s domestic tourism is gradually recovering, with an increase in the number of domestic tourist trips in 2022 by 19.82 percent compared with 2021 and growing 1.76 percent compared with 2019.
  • The highest number of domestic tourist trips occurred in March 2022, with 80.23 million trips.
  • Indonesia’s domestic tourism sector in 2022 will consistently improve in line with the declining trend of the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This improvement was marked by a growth in the number of domestic tourist trips of 19.82 percent compared with the previous year. A total of 734.86 million trips were recorded during the 2022 period. Compared to conditions before the COVID-19 pandemic (2019), domestic trips grew by 1.76 percent.
  • March 2022 has the most numbers of domestic trips, with 80.23 million. This amount was higher by 1.5 million trips compared with the highest number of domestic trips before the COVID-19 pandemic (June 2019).
  • Generally, domestic tourism in Indonesia was still dominated by the flow of tourist trips on Jawa Island. This domination was evidenced by 76.54 percent of domestic tourist trips from Jawa. Jawa Island was also the main destination for domestic tourists in 2022, which accounts for 75.49 percent of the entire domestic tourist trips in Indonesia.
  • The number of domestic tourists has experienced positive growth compared with conditions before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the recovery of domestic tourists has only been seen in several provinces, including Jawa Timur. The number of trips originating from Jawa Timur experienced the most significant growth compared with 2019 (145.16 percent). In addition, Jawa Timur was also listed as the destination province with the largest increase in domestic tourist arrivals in 2022, with 134.61 percent compared to 2019.
