Abstract

  • The labour force in February 2022 was 144.01 million people, a 4.20 million increase over February 2021. Similarly, the labour force participation rate increased by 0.98 percentage points.
  • Compared to February 2021, the number of employed people increased by 4.55 million to 135.61 million in February 2022. Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery experienced the greatest rise in employment (0.37 percentage points), while Other Services experienced the largest decline in employment (0.51 percentage points).
  • The informal sector employed 81.33 million people (59.97 percent), a 0.35 percentage points increase from February 2021.
  • Voluntary part-time employment and underemployment rates were both lower in February 2022 than in February 2021, falling by 0.15 percentage points and 0.85 percentage points, respectively.
  • The number of commuter worker has declined in the last three years. In February 2022, there were 7.07 million commuter workers.
  • The February 2022 unemployment rate was 5.83 percent, a decrease by 0.43 percentage points from the February 2021 rate.
  • There were 11.53 million people (5.53 percent of the working-age population) who were affected by the COVID-19, with 0.96 million people being unemployed, 0.55 million people being exited from the labour force, 0.58 million people being temporarily absent from work, and 9.44 million people having their hours worked reduced.
  • The average wages of employees from February 2021 to February 2022 slightly increased by 1.12 percent from 2.86 to 2.89 million rupiahs.
  • The average monthly wages of male employees were 3.14 million rupiahs, and female employees earned 2.43 million rupiahs.
  • The top average monthly wages were 4.86 million rupiahs received by employees in Information and Communication category. Meanwhile, the lowest wages earner were in the Other Services category at 1.73 million rupiahs.
  • There was 10 out of 17 main industry categories where the average of monthly wage were higher than the national average wage.
  • The average monthly wages of employees who graduated from university were 4.37 million rupiahs, Elsewhere those who only graduated elementary school or less got 1.81 million rupiahs.
  • Based on the age group of employees, aged 50–54 years earned the highest average monthly wages of employees as much as 3.70 million rupiahs. The lowest monthly wages as of 1.66 million rupiahs received by employees aged 15–19 years.
