Tourism Progress

• In December 2021, the number of international visitor arrivals to Indonesia was 163.62 thousand, decreased by 0.28 percent compared with December 2020. At the same time, international visitor arrivals in December 2021 increased by 8.66 percent compared with the previous month.
• From January to December 2021, the number of international visitor arrivals was 1.56 million, decreased by 61.57 percent over the same period in 2020.
• The room occupancy rate of classified hotels in December 2021 was 51.57 percent, up 10.78 percentage points from December 2020. Similarly, the room occupancy rate in December 2021 grew moderately by 3.74 percentage points compared with November 2021.
• The average length of stay of foreign and Indonesian guests at classified hotels during December 2021 was 1.61 days, no difference from the average length of stay in December 2020.

Growth of National Transport

• The number of domestic air transport passengers departing in December 2021 was 4.0 million people and increased by 14.34 percent compared to November 2021. The number of international air transport passengers increased by 29.84 percent to 96.6 thousand people. During January–December 2021, the number of domestic air transport passengers was 30.1 million people and decreased by 7.18 percent. The number of international air transport passengers was 627.9 thousand people and decreased by 82.83 percent compared to the same period in 2020.
• The number of domestic sea transport passengers departing in December 2021 was recorded at 1.4 million people, increasing by 4.09 percent when compared to November 2021. The amount of freight transported by domestic sea transport decreased by 1.27 percent, turning into 25.9 million tons. During January–December 2021, the number of domestic sea transport passengers reached 15.0 million people and increased by 5.59 percent compared to the same period in 2020. Meanwhile, the amount of freight rose by 3.45 percent, reaching 313.0 million tons.
• The number of railway passengers departing in December 2021 was 17.4 million people, which increased by 13.78 percent compared to November 2021. Whereas, freight transported by train decreased 7.16 percent to 4.4 million tons. The number of passengers reached 149.8 million people during January–December 2021, decreased by 19.54 percent compared to the same period in 2020. On the other hand, the cumulative amount of freight transported by train rose by 10.29 percent to 53.4 million tons.
