Abstract

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in December 2010 was 125.17 or inflated 0.92 percent from November 2010 at 124.03. In December 2010, the changes of each expenditure group as follows: the foodstuff increased from 143.36 to 147.39 or inflated 2.81 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco increased from 132.11 to 132.59 or inflated 0.36 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel increased from 119.54 to 119.79 or inflated 0.21 percent; the clothing increased from 125.40 to 126.76 or inflated 1.08 percent; the health increased from 115.68 to 115.86 or inflated 0.16 percent; the education, recreation and sport increased from 117.78 to 117.86 or inflated 0.07 percent, and the transportation, communication and financial services increased from 105.84 to 106.10 or inflated 0.25 percent.

The inflation in December 2010 was mainly caused by price increases of several commodities, i.e.: rice, red chili, small chili, gold accessories, cooking oil, purebred chicken eggs, fresh fish, potato, rental house fee, passenger plane fare, green chili, orange, cooked rice and side dishes served together, clove-flavored cigarette, filter cigarette, brick, leasing house fee and gasoline. Meanwhile, the prices of the following commodities were decreased, i.e.: purebred chicken meat, shallot, cucumber, string bean and garlic.

In December 2010, the core of CPI changed from 119.82 to 120.27 or inflated 0.38 percent (see Table 2). The administered price component changed from 119.12 to 119.34 or inflated 0.18 percent and the volatile component changed from 145.89 to 150.69 or inflated 3.29 percent.

The core, administered and volatile inflation rate of January to December 2010 (inflation rate of calendar 2010) were the same as the inflation rate of year-on-year (December 2010 to December 2009). The core inflation rate for January to December 2010 was 4.28 % while the administered price and volatile inflation rate were 5.40 % and 17.74 % respectively.
