Abstract

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in April was 148.43, meanwhile the CPI in March was 148.67 or deflated 0.16 %. Generally, the indices of expenditure groups increased, except the index of foodstuff and index of education, recreation and sport decreased. All index of expenditure group as follow: the foodstuff index decreased from 148.22 to 146.30 or deflated 1.30 %; the prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco increased from 142.58 to 143.12 or inflated 0.38 %; the housing, water, electric, gas and fuel increased from 151.03 to 151.43 or inflated 0.26 %; the clothing increased from 130.43 to 131.23 or inflated 0.61 %; the health increased from 128.79 to 129.20 or inflated 0.32 %; the education, recreation and sport decreased from 148.23 to 148.18 or deflated 0.03 %; the transportation, communication and financial services increased from 167.42 to 167.79 or inflated 0.22 %.
The deflation of April 2007 was mainly caused by decreased of several commodities, i.e.: rice, red chili, fresh fish, spinach, bean, string bean, potato, cucumber, green chili, tomato (vegetables), carrot, garlic, small chili, and kerosene. Meanwhile, the prices of the following commodities were increased: purebred chicken meat, purebred chicken eggs, cooking oil, gasoline, gold accessories, green jackfruit, filter cigarette, orange, papaya, porridge of mug beans, cooked rice and side dishes served together, sugar, leasing house fee, cement, rental house fee, wages of labor, liquid propane gas, and city water fare.
In April 2007, the core of CPI changed from 137.83 to 138.11 or inflated 0.20 %. The volatile good component changed from 153.32 to 150.83 or deflated 1.62 %, and the administered good component changed from 180.98 to 181.52 or inflated 0.30 %. The core inflation rate for January to April 2007 and year-on-year (April 2007 on April 2006) were 1.69 % and 5.74 % respectively. While the volatile inflation rate for January to April 2007 and year-on-year (April 2007 on April 2006) were 2.58 % and 12.91 % respectively. Furthermore the administered price inflation rate for January to April 2007 and year-on-year (April 2007 on April 2006) were 1.33 % and 2.55 % respectively.
