Abstract

The December 2006 Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 145.89, or inflated 1.21% from the previous month. All indices of expenditure groups increased, the foodstuff index increased from 138.60 to 142.92 or inflated of 3.12%, prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco from 138.39 to 139.93 or inflated of 1.11%; housing, water, electric, gas and fuel from 147.25 to 148.34 or inflated of 0.74%; the clothing from 129.33 to 129.50 or inflated of 0.13%; health from 125.71 to 127.03 or inflated of 1.05%; education, recreation and sport from 147.60 to 147.70 or inflated of 0.07%; and the transport, communication and financial services from 166.89 to 167.06 or inflated of 0.10%.
The December 2006 inflation was mainly driven by: rice; red chili; leasing house fee; cooked rice and side dishes served together; filter cigarette; cooking oil; small chili; hospital care fare; shallot; sugar;clove-flavored cigarette; leek; potato; tomato (vegetable); carrot; garlic; cooked noodle; sand; iron sheeting; rental house fee; housemaid cost; and maintenance/service fare of personal vehicle. The prices of the following commodities were decreased: purebred chicken meat; fresh fish; spinach; purebred chicken eggs; bean; string bean; kangkung ( kind of leafy vegetable); and apple. Inflation rate for 2006 and year- on- year (December 2006 on December 2005) were 6.60%.
The core of CPI in December 2006 changed from 134.94 to 135.82 or yielded core inflation 0.65% compared to the previous month. The volatile good component changed from 141.38 to 147.04 or inflated of 4.00%, and the administered good component from 178.62 to 179.13 or inflated of 0.29%. In December 2006, the monthly and year- on -year core inflations were 6.03%. The monthly and year on year inflation of the volatile and the administered price goods inflations were 15.27% and 1.84% for the same time comparison, respectively.
