Abstract

Based on 592 observations conducted in 15 provinces in July 2003, the lowest price of unhusked rice at farmers was 900.00 rupiahs per kilogram in Jawa Tengah (IR-64) and in Nusa Tenggara Barat (IR-66) with GKP quality. Meanwhile, the highest price was recorded at 1,900.00 rupiahs per kilogram (i.e. in Kaliantan Tengah and Kalimantan Selatan, Siam varity, GKS quality). In average, the prices of unhusked rice for all kinds qualitiy at farmers and rice mills were below their Government Purchase Prices (GPP). Only 1 (one) observation of GKG was found, that was in Nusa Tenggara Timur.
The percentage of unhusked rice prices below the reference price (HPP) constantly increased. It rose from 57.14 per cent in June to 64.86 per cent in July 2003. Similarly, the percentage for non-quality unhusked rice also increased, from 15.87 per cent in June to 17.91 per cent in July 2003.
