Abstract

"
  • July 2003, was marked with 0.03 per cent of inflation. Based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in 43 cities, inflation was experienced in 20 cities, while deflation happened in 23 cities. The highest inflation was in Padang Sidempuan (1.52 per cent), whilst the lowest inflation was in Padang (0.01 per cent). Meanwhile, the biggest deflation was experienced in Palu (-1.89 per cent) and the smallest inflation happened in Tasikmalaya (-0.01 per cent).
  • The inflation was contributed by the increase in the prices of some goods and services groups as follows: housing (0.38 per cent), clothing (0.22 per cent), health (0.26 per cent) , education, recreation and sports (1.51 per cent) and transportation & communication (0.05 per cent). Meanwhile, unprepared food and prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco products experienced a decrease as high as minus 0.72 per cent and 0.22 per cent respectively.
  • The inflation rate by calendar year (January-July) 2003 reached to 1.26 per cent, while year on year inflation (July 2003 over July 2002) was 5.79 per cent. More details of information could be seen in the tables below.
