Abstract

Based on 547 observations conducted in 17 provinces in May 2003, the lowest price of unhusked rice at farmers was 850.00 rupiahs per kilogram (i.e. in Lampung, Muncul varity, non-quality), while the highest price was recorded at 1,900.00 per kilogram (i.e. in Kaliantan Tengah, Siam varity, GKS quality). In average, the prices of unhusked rice for GKG and GKS quality at farmers and rice mills were still below their Government Purchase Prices (GPP).
The percentage of unhusked rice prices which were below the reference price experienced a derease, from 61.89 per cent in April 2003 to 58.13 per cent in May 2003. Similarly, for Non-quality unhusked rice, that percentage also dropped, from 20.75 per cent in April 2003 to 10.24 per cent in May 2003.
In May 2003, the average prices of unhusked rice at farmers for GKG, GKS quality were recorded experiencing an increase of 1.89 per cent and 3.82 per cent respectively, over April 2003. Meanwhile, GKS and Non-quality unhusked rice prices decreased as high as 0.59 per cent and 0.52 per cent respectively.
