Abstract

The number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia through 13 points of entry in April 2003 was recorded at 204.6 thousand people or sharply declined by 29.07 per cent over the March 2003 figure of 288.4 thousand people. This decrease was still directly affected by the SARS spreading in Singapore and some other ASIA countries.
In April 2003, the number of railway passengers accounted to 11.92 million people, rose by 2.20 per cent compared to the figure in March 2003, meanwhile the railway freight transportation calculated at 1.28 million tons or increased by 9.56 per cent. In cumulative January - April 2003 period, the number of passengers accounted to 48.16 million people and the number of cargo was recorded at 4.83 million tons, declined by 17.30 per cent and 14.28 per cent respectively, over the same period in 2002.
