Abstract

The number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia through 13 points of entry in March 2003 was recorded at 288.4 thousand people or slightly declined by 0.46 per cent over the February 2003 figure of 289.8 thousand people. This decrease particularly happenned in Batam, as an impact of spreading SARS desease in Singapore and some other countries.
In March 2003, the number of railway passengers accounted to 12.19 million people, rose by 9.19 per cent compared to the figure in February 2003, meanwhile the railway freight transportation calculated at 1.17 million tons or increased by 2.27 per cent. In cumulative January - March 2003 period, the number of passengers accounted to 36.23 million people, declined by 14.45 per cent, and the number of cargo was recorded at 3.54 million tons, dropped by 14.71 per cent over the same period in 2002.
