Abstract

"
  • April 2003, was marked with 0.15 per cent of inflation. Based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) calculation in 43 cities, inflation was experienced in 18 cities, while deflation happened in 25 cities. The highest inflation was in Ambon (2.14 per cent), whilst the lowest inflation was in Padang (0.07 per cent). Meanwhile, the biggest deflation was experienced in Kupang (1.44 per cent) and the smallest inflation happened in Surakarta (0.04 per cent).
  • The inflation was contributed by the increase in the prices of some goods and services groups as follows: prepared food, beverages, and tobacco products (1.41 per cent), housing (0.16 per cent), health (0.32 per cent), education, recreation and sports (0.27 per cent) and transportation & communication (1.31 per cent). Meanwile, some other groups experienced a decrease as follows: unprepared food (1.15 per cent) and clothing (0.64 per cent).
  • The inflation rate by calendar year (January-April) 2003 reached to 0.92 per cent, while ?year on year? inflation (April 2003 over April 2002) was 7.54 per cent. More details of information could be seen in the tables below.
