Abstract

Based on 520 observations conducted in 14 provinces in January 2003, the lowest price of unhusked rice at farmers was 900.00 rupiahs per kilogram (i.e. in Jawa Tengah, IR-64 varity, non-quality), while the higest price was recorded at 2,000.00 per kilogram (i.e. in Sumatera Barat, Anak Daro varity, GKP quality). In average, the prices of unhusked rice for GKS and GKP quality at farmers and rice mill were still above their Government Purchase Prices (GPP). Whilst, GKG quality was not found.
The percentage of unhusked rice prices which were below the reference price experienced an increase, from 35.38 per cent in February 2003 to 38.46 per cent in March 2003. Weanwhile, for Non-quality unhusked rice, that percentage also rose, from 11.35 per cent in february 2003 to 24.04 per cent in March 2003.
In March 2003, the average prices of unhusked rice at farmers for GKS, GKP and Non-quality were recorded experiencing a decrease of 1.05 per cent, 3.06 per cent and 8.06 per cent respectively, compared to those in February 2003.
