Abstract

Based on 437 observations conducted in 14 provinces in January 2003, the lowest price of unhusked rice at farmers was 900.00 rupiahs per kilogram (i.e. in Sumatera Barat, Batubara varity, GKP quality), while the higest price was recorded at 1,900.00 per kilogram (i.e. in Jawa Barat, Ciherang varity, GKS quality). In average, the prices of unhusked rice for GKS and GKP quality at farmers and rice mill were still above their Government Purchase Prices (GPP). Whilst, for GKG quality, all producer prices were below GPP, due to the new/ revised HPP for this quality of unhusked rice.
The percentage of unhusked rice prices which were below the reference price experienced an increase, from 8.82 per cent in December 2002 to 22.20 per cent in January 2003. This was mainly caused by the change in GPP. Weanwhile, for unhusked rice prices for Non-quality unhusked rice, that percentage dropped from 5.88 per cent in December 2002 to 5.26 per cent in January 2003.
