Abstract

  • In May 2002. from the calculation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in 43 cities.inflation was marked in 37 cities. while 6 cities experienced deflation. The highestinflation was in Manado ( + 3.50 % ). and the lowest was in Palu ( + 0.01 % ). Meanwhile.the biggest deflation was in Ternate ( - 1.55 % ). and the smallest was in Banjarmasin.
  • Based on the group of expenditures. the inflation was contributed by the increases in thecost of food ( + 0.58 % ). prepared food. beverages and tobacco products (+ 0.07 % ). therises in the price of housing (+ 0.78 % ). health (+ 0.67 % ). education. recreation andsports (+ 0.28 %) and the increases in the cost of transportation & communication (+ 3.4 %). The increase was partially offset by the decreases in the price of clothing (- 0.05 %).
